Hi ho! I haven't been posting in this blog very frequently because I've been busy with my real life as homeschooling mommy of four. Cake artist is the other hat I wear infrequently. :O) But yet the blog has continued to be actively visited by folks all around the world! I had been getting readership statistics from Typepad all along and due to the popularity of the Tetris cake in July, I've been placed higher up in the search engines (especially Google). In all likelihood, you may have found me through Google!

I recently signed up free with feedburner.com and I can confirm that I am getting worldwide hits, not only in my country, Singapore.

The international hits I'm getting are from far flung places (in relation to Singapore, of course) like the US, Great Britain, Canada, Australia and even south America and Africa. These are mostly looking for cake design ideas and info on fondant. And to be able to contribute some to these who come from cake baking and decorating cultures (something we don't really have in Singapore) is a matter of pride for me!

A warm hello from Singapore to my international readership and visitors! We're at the southern most tip of the Asian continent! Not China!!! :OP

The hits I get from Singapore are mostly those who are looking to buy a cake for their special occasion or are simply interested in the cake art I'm producing. But, sigh, I'm still trying to keep pace (and enjoy)homeschooling and four kids so the cake business dream has to be on hold for a while. I do get requests for orders and I do seriously consider each one if I'm able to deliver (as in fit it in my schedule). Thank you so much for your kind consideration!!! I will try to squeeze in a project when I am able (and if the price is right!)

Well readers, where-ever you're from, do write if there's any info you'd like to know about fondant cakes or any other cakey info that you think might be useful for other readers to know. Or just write to say hello. :O) You'd be a great help in helping me improve on this site! Thanks!

The Geek Element: making news on the Internet!

 

gameaxis.com was the first to feature the Tetris cake on the net.

And then, the story was taken up by kotaku.com . To date, at this site, the cake story has been viewed over 6, 000 times, and counting!.

And from kotaku.com, it pretty much spread around the net!!!

Well, as for the reviews and comments on those sites, I'll summarize them as, it's a georgeous cake, totally unique, some love it but not as their wedding cake.

Hey, to each his own. :O)

And the biggest compliment of all came from a guy who works with LOL productions.... He made a montage of the cake, in his words, "to cheer the couple for having such a wonderfully geeky cake" . :O) His montage is totally geeky too.

So, I guess the success of the cake was due to a good, qwerky idea, an effective design to carry it and the boldness to finally execute the plan. That made it a special, one of a kind wedding (and wedding cake.) As I had mentioned it before, kudos to young Singaporean couples who are willing to be less traditional and expressive of their personalities!

As for myself, I'm pleased to have taken "customized" and "personalized" wedding cakes to an all new level.

All glory to my Lord Jesus who loves me so. :O)

Well, since the setting up of this weblog, it's been so special to me to hear my friends and family all around the world sharing the joys of my newly found talent.

Jean, my very dear friend since secondary school (TKGS), wrote today her congratulations in her usual poetic style that said so much in so few words.  Jean's being a vet at the San Frans SPCA. Thanks, Jean for being happy for me. :O)

My sweetie little cousin Lara in Belgium also sent her congratulations over the sms. (I guess at 17, she's not so little anymore but some things are difficult to get used to...) I reproduce her sms here:

Wow. I am super excited. My cake got featured on baking911.com ...

For those who would be interested, baking911.com is a fantastic site, choc full of recipes, advice and how-to for any kind of baking qns. The founder and owner of the site, Sarah Philips, is a cookbook writer, food researcher, and professional baker, based in New York. The contents in baking911.com gets quoted frequently in major American newspapers and magazines such as The New York Times, Chicago Tribune and others.

But the best part is... the forum! It's fantastic!!! You get to ask expert bakers questions on-line... and they get answered very promptly! Sarah is ever so encouraging and helpful. I find her very humble and unassuming. That site has been a tremendous help to me.

AND my cake got featured!!! I'm soooo honoured...
