(Watch out world!!! Suwei's gonna type in Chinese in this post!!!)
So I was talking to my children this morning during our morning devotion time, and we happened to come to the topic of "what to do when a bad person tries to do something bad to you."
Do you talk to your children about these things? Well, I do. It is better that they know that there are people out there who can and will do bad things to them and what they can do to protect themselves (scream, kick, scratch, etc). We talked about molesters, flashers, and bad people who might try to force entry into our house...etc.
Sweet, huh?
But, folks, it's better that they learn these ugly truths about the world from their parents than learn the hard way.
In the afternoon, we got to singing "客人来" which is a children's folk song which goes like this:
客人来,看爸爸
爸爸不在家。
我请客人先坐下,
再敬一杯茶。
(A guest has come to the house to vist Papa but he is not at home.
I invited the guest to come in and served him a cup of tea.)
And my eldest (almost 11) astutely commented that that's not a good song to teach little children. And I agreed with him that we ought to update children's songs to reflect the changing times and warn children of dangers out there.
Hence the song should go (but I need to refine the number of syllables, coz it kinda trips like a tongue twister now...)
(A guest has come to the house to vist Papa but he is not at home.
I said, You may not come in, Coz you might be a baaaaad person!)
Yup.
Heheh, There's actually another children's song:
Verse 1 (sung by wolf)
Chorus (Little rabbit's response):
不开不开,我不开, 妈妈没回来,谁来也不开
Verse 2:

Yee Wah,
Oh yeah! I think I know that song. not really familiar tho. Will ask hubby when he gets home. ;)
great, the chinese have good songs even way back that taught children not to think that every adult is like their sunday school teachers.
