I've waited incredibly long to do this but, finally, I have a high schooler in my homeschool who can carry out my ambitions. bwhahaha....Confession: I have watched TV all my life. I did some film courses in University but back then, it was all in theory because the equiptment and software was only in the hands of the professionals and those in the film industry.
Now.... with this explosion of apps and software tools, film making is right in the hands of almost everybody and anybody can make a film! It's an amazing time to be a student these days. So much is available. Coupled with the fact that the good papa recently bought a MacBook Pro with iMovie. Finally.... finally.... let the movie making BEGIN!!!! bwahahahaha
Software being available is one thing. Having the passion to tackle it is another. I'm glad that my kids are willing to try new things and experiment, go beyond what is "required". No. 1 noticed that professional cameras have stablizers attached to their cameras. So he experiemented with attaching a hammer (yes, a hammer from the tool box) to his tripod and mounting the camera on it. It works! lol
Homeschooling middle schoolers and high schoolers is SO FUN! They are able to take on so much more.
Here's the two of them working on the running scene. I gave the general directions and story line but it was no. 1 who gave the character motivations and action directions. No. 3 did lots of improv too! He's a natural at acting. (I have learned to step aside when they are being creative. I have sadly lost the ability to dream and clown around.)
In our homeschool, we "barter trade" expertise. ;) A group of SMU students asked us for an interview regarding homeschooling and I said, ok, on condition you guys teach us some film editing. And they made good on their word!
Our young mentor, pictured here, took a look at our first film attempt (link below) and was impressed! haha....yaay!
He decided to go with his British accent. Sounds authentic, doesn't it? lol
