My husband and two other dear brethren have organized an outdoors activities group for the kids. Mainly, we wanted to do this for the kids in our church but it has also opened to other contacts. And it is more so that the homeschoolers will join because the kids who attend school will most likely have their own CCAs.
We wanted to give the kids an opportunity to work together in a group, have the chance to lead and follow in this kind of group setting. Every step, they are guided in a Christian way.
It's for ages 9 and above (late teens). Anyone younger needs to be accompanied by their parents for meetings.
The group is called GO! Cadets.
GO is for Growing up together Outdoors
! is for Initiative
C is for Christ honouring
A is for Adventurous
D is for Disciplined
E is for Enterprising
T is for Teachable
S is for Steadfast
And that sums up the core values of the group. :O)
So far, they've been learning orienteering, knots and rope work and they learn drills as well. No. 1 loves GO! Cadets meetings tremendously.
Over this sunday to Tuesday, the instructors (ie, my dear husband and the two brethren) organised a summary camp for the cadets to run through again what they have learned, apply it and get tested. Badges are in the pipeline!
The second night, the cadets (all 7 of them) camped in three tents in our garden. It was fun and exciting.
Here's Instructor Ong telling the cadets to go to sleep.
Here they are waking up cold in the misty morning. :OP
Bible time and prayer after some exercise in the park.
It's a pity that I didn't get more more photos of the rest of the summary camp. The night before we had a bbq. And the night before that, they had a campfire! And also good Word time and singing praise to God. God made it possible for us to have such an enjoyable camp in every aspect. He is wonderful.
Anyone wants more info on GO! Cadets, do write to me, ok?
